The Dog Cancer Ride Across America is a huge challenge -
for a wonderful cause.
But even though I'll be the one with the sore butt, getting across the country is going to be a team effort. And there's plenty that you can do to help...
Here are a few ways you
can support the ride in addition to adding your dog to the "Map of Heroes" or any financial charity donations you may make...
> First, "I want to meet you (and your dog)" - It's going to be a long,
lonely bicycle ride across America, and I'd love to meet you if you're
anywhere near my route. I'm looking for friendly faces (and friendly dogs)
who I can stop and visit with along the way...
Maybe we can do an interview
or video together to post on my travel blog, or just share a drink and some
time together. (We've even got wonderful hosts who have offered us places
to stay as we ride through their town.) So if you're interested in meeting
me along the way, just let me know - I've printed a list of cities that
we'll be riding through below...
(By the way, by "we" I mean me, my assistant Ian who will be driving my
support vehicle, and my dog Angie - our "poster dog" for canine cancer
prevention - who will be accompanying us for the entire trip.)
> Second, "Pass it on..." - One of the best things you can do to help
the Dog Cancer Ride Across America succeed is to help "spread the word". If you've already sent e-mail messages to your friends, or sent friends to
the ride website - thank you. If you're one of the dozens of supporters
who have added links to "www.DogCancerRide.com" to your website, your blog,
or your myspace page - or posted information about the ride on any of the
dog related groups and message boards out there - you're amazing, and
thank you.
I'm doing my best to spread messages about the ride and the dogs we're
working to support, but nothing I do can compare to the impact YOU can have
just by sharing the "www.DogCancerRide.com" link with friends through e-mails,
through message boards and through your websites and blogs. So if you
haven't already done so, please, share away...
> And Third, "Help us find dog friendly contacts and charity partners..." - In each city I ride through along the route (there's a list below), we'll be
holding special "live" local community events. These "In Loving Memory..." live events will give local
dog owners like you the chance to meet each other and celebrate their dogs -
living and passed - and a chance to add their dogs to the giant "In Loving
Memory..." traveling scrapbook we'll be creating along the way. (We're planning
to build the world's largest dog tribute scrapbook to take with us from city
to city!) And we're looking for local dog related charities - shelters,
rescues, support groups, etc. - to team with in each city for these
"In Loving Memory..." live events. So if you know of any local dog charities that
would like to work with us to generate publicity and raise money for THEIR
OWN charity - please let us know. (All donations we collect in person at the live
city events will go to the LOCAL dog charity - to help local dogs - in addition
to the national donations we collect online for dog cancer charities)
Here's a list of cities we're planning to ride through this summer (you can also view the current planned route on the Map of Heroes)
